About ComedyWorx

Our first show was in March 1989 in the "New Yorker" Restaurant in North Raleigh. After six months the restaurant went out of business leaving us with no place to perform. In the interim we were a traveling grouped that performed primarily at churches and schools.

In February of 1990, we were hired by City Market to perform for four consecutive weekends in an open space they had which eventually became part of Greenshields. City Market management liked the show and we ended up obtaining our own permanent space at City Market.

For the first year we performed in a space on Blake Street next to a fish market that is no longer there. Then we moved to a permanent space at 204 Wolfe Street, next to what was Playspace. We were in City Market for 12 years.

In November 2001 we moved to our present location at 431 Peace Street.

In addition to our regularly scheduled performances we have taught improv to over 1000 people during the last 16 years. Many of those eventually became performers in our associate and resident companies. Alumni of ComedyWorx have performed in improv clubs in LA, NYC, Chicago, elsewhere around the U.S, and Europe.

ComedyWorx has hosted the Atlantic Coast Comedy Conference for 15 years which brings together improvisers from around the country. We have also produced the Funny Film Festival. We have performed throughout the Southeast, private shows for many businesses in RTP and around NC, as well as most of the colleges, and numerous churches.
